What the papers said...
"The use of dynamics was particularly skillful throughout but especially so in the emotional portrait of friendship in the famous Nimrod variation which was very moving..."

"Luton Symphony have made a point over recent seasons of providing a showcase for local young professional musicians who are on their way to the top and on this occasion it gave a showcase to a very able musician indeed!"

Roger Scales in 'Classical World'

"...there was a tautness and discipline evident in the ensemble playing which produced some moments of absolute musical splendour. Secondly, there was a programme of music that had been put together thoughtfully to give a well balanced evening's entertainment. And thirdly, one felt that the music was in the hands of people who understood the innate character of the music which lay underneath the printed score."

Information about the Luton Symphony Orchestra

The Luton Symphony Orchestra, based in Luton, Bedfordshire, U.K., has been in existence for over 50 years and has acquired an excellent reputation providing interesting and varied concerts to Luton, South Bedfordshire and North Hertfordshire.   It was founded in 1953 as the Luton Youth Orchestra and became the Luton Symphony Orchestra three years later. One of the founding members of the orchestra is our Vice President, an honoured and respected member of the viola section.

The orchestra’s aim is to promote live orchestral music in the Luton area by presenting orchestral concerts performed to a high musical standard, and to serve as a concert platform for local musicians, both orchestral players and soloists.   The orchestra has had the privilege of working with many world famous soloists including Raphael Wallfisch ('cello), Richard Watkins (horn), Jack Brymer (clarinet), Rohan de Saram ('cello), Chris Allen (clarinet) Rodney Friend (violin), Daniel Smith (bassoon), Andrew Gough (guitar), and Vovka Ashkenazy (piano).   Nigel Kennedy gave his first professional performance with the orchestra at the age of 15.

The orchestra's repertoire is extensive and has included the premieres of several works written for it.  Its current conductor, Uwe Radok, has been working with the orchestra since 1989.
